COVID-19 IN NEPAL: PUBLIC HEALTH INSIGHTS & PERSPECTIVES

July 25 (11 AM - 12:30 PM) Eastern Time in the USA / 08:45 PM - 10:15 PM Nepal time

A panel of public health experts from Nepal and the United States will explore public health topics of COVID-19 to improve our understanding of the current state of the pandemic in Nepal. The evolving nature of the pandemic has been challenging for the scientific community to keep abreast of new data and rapidly developing research conclusions, whereas changing guidelines, public misinformation and rumors have confused the general public, especially in countries like Nepal, and resulted in increasing distrust in science and public health guidance. Thus, this panel discussion will summarize, elucidate and expound on the current scientific knowledge to help inform researchers, policy makers and the general public in Nepal as well as the global community. While the pandemic has united everyone globally, it has also highlighted healthcare inequities at local, national and global levels. Relevant public health issues and sensitive cultural and societal issues will be explored to evaluate the lessons learned from the ongoing pandemic and will highlight the importance of public health in Nepal to transform the infrastructure moving forward.
